Volunteer Policies and Procedures

Policies

It is the policy of the VCLA to encourage and facilitate volunteer participation in the organization, and to ensure that a code of conduct is in place for volunteers and staff to follow.

Procedures

The appropriate staff will meet with individuals interested in volunteering to determine their interest in volunteering, their suitability to the organization’s needs and the expected outcomes of the volunteer’s participation.

Before placement within the Association, each volunteer must complete:

A criminal reference check (a letter is provided to take to the potential volunteers home police agency)

An intake interview form

Volunteers will be provided with an orientation session that pertains to relevant office and program procedure, goals and objectives, roles and responsibilities.  Volunteers will also receive, if available, a copy of the volunteer guidelines and the outline of their volunteer job description.

It is a requirement of the organization that volunteers be open to participating in training opportunities as they become available. While some training will be required of all volunteer tutors, the extent of the training will depend upon the volunteer’s education and experience.
