Q. Does the Valley Community Learning Association issue tax receipts?
|
A. Yes, the Valley Community Learning Association is a registered charity. For contributions of $10 or more you will receive a charitable tax receipt for income tax purposes. Our charitable registration number is: 89993 3386 RR0001.

Q. When will I receive my income tax receipt?
|
A. You should receive your income tax receipts by mail within four to six weeks of making your donation.

Q. I made a donation several months ago, why haven’t I received my charitable tax receipt?
|
A. Please call us toll-free 1-866-898-7323, or email vcla@eastlink.ca with as much information about your donation as possible. It's possible we had an incorrect address for you so when you call or write, tell us your full name as it appeared on your donation, your address, when you made the donation and the amount. Include a phone number or email address so we can get in touch with you if we need to.

Q. I am unable to locate my receipt. Can you send me another one?

A. Yes. We can send you a copy of your receipt. Be sure to give us your full name as it appeared on your donation, your address, the date you made the donation and the amount. Please include a phone number or email address so we can get in touch with you if we need to.

Q. Can you send my receipt to someone else?
|
A. The Income Tax Act only allows receipts to be sent to the person making the donation. This means we can only send a receipt to the person whose name appears in the pre-printed cheque, or on the money order.

Q. Am I able to make a donation by credit card?
|
A. At the present time, the Valley Community Learning Association is not set up to receive donations by credit card.

Q. Does the Valley Community Learning Association sell, rent or trade donor information, such as mailing and e-mail addresses, to other agencies?

A. No.
|
Q. Where do my donations go?
|
A. Typically, donations to the Valley Community Learning Association go to those activities, which are difficult to fund from other sources, such as government grants. Donations go to such things as buying resources so adult learners can have their own books, or training opportunities for volunteer tutors.

Q. What percentage of my donation will go to administrative costs?
|
A. The Valley Community Learning Association strives to keep administrative costs as low as possible. We spend less than 10% on administration.

Targeted Donations

Q. Can I donate to a specific program?
|
A. Yes. Donations may be made to, for example, the Volunteer Tutor-Matching program, or the Brain Injury Association of Nova Scotia`s Inroads program. Just put the particular program on the reference line and we will designate the money to that particular program.

Donating Goods

Q. Does the Valley Community Learning Association accept donations of things like older computer equipment, books, or desks and chairs?
|
A. In many cases, yes. Please call 1-866-898-7323 and tell us what you would like to donate.

Q. Can I get a charitable tax receipt for my in-kind donation?
|
A. Revenue Canada requires documentation demonstrating the worth of the item in question. If you can provide this documentation the Valley Community Learning Association would be able to issue a charitable tax receipt.
